Fun times yesterday with studio guest Chris White! What an assortment of “guilty pleasure” songs. Look forward to having him in again soon. Don’t know about you but I’m still smarting from this morning’s story about the kindergarden teacher in Yakima who sent feces home in a student’s backpack. Just can’t see that as a teaching moment from any angle. Oh yeah, it’s my sister Molly’s birthday. Happy birthday sis!

Another date that reads the same forward and backward.  Cool.

Pretty happy with the way the switch to 96.9 has gone.  Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.  Be sure to sign up at spokanesriver.com to win a “Year-full of Music”.

Pretty happy with the 7th grade basketball team I’m coaching.  won last night by 24.  Some good teams coming up though.

Yes, it’s true. January 1st we’re moving to 96.9 on your radio. Music, staff and all the other cool stuff is coming with us to the new frequency. We’ll start the year by playing back your favorite artists in order from the artist poll currently on spokanesriver.com. Get your picks in now and be counted! Then, be on the look out for more great River Roadtrips and prizes as we start 2010 on our new frequency….96.9 I better start practicing saying it now so I have it down by the first of the new year. Look forward to you joining us at our new home….Spokane’s River 96.9.

Double Whammy

November 9th, 2009 by greg-spokane

It’s not often you get to take advantage of a true double whammy.  When my friend Brandon O’Neill sent me this e-mail,  it was obvious that I was definitely in double whammy territory….

On Friday the 13th, Rough Congress will play Irv’s (415 W Sprague) and Tyrone Wells will play the Knitting Factory (919 W Sprague). What may not be known is that Rough Congress front-man Brandon O’Neill and Tyrone Wells were childhood buddies. From about 1987 to 1992 the two were nearly inseparable. They’d spend their days spinning old R&B and Soul records by artists like Stevie Wonder and Lionel Ritchie. At age 13 they started co-writing fledgling songs together. The seed had been planted. After high school, Wells moved to California to pursue music and studies and O’Neill made his way to Seattle and found a career in theatre. Music brings them both back to their hometown on the same night on the same street. Both artists are known for their soulful voices, clearly inspired by those days spinning records. A little home town, blue-eyed soul for everyone.

Great responses to the “what’s your favorite Fall show” question this morning. Particularly liked Taxi. Wow! That’s old school. Listen for the Musical Mind Bender tomorrow morning at 8:10 for your chance to win your way to Studio Blue next Friday.

I was surprised by how many different responses there were to candy you look forward to after Halloween. Thanks for you input! A lot of people like Smarties….who knew. I’ll keep loading up on dark chocolate, thank you. Tomorrow morning I’ll try to find someone who still goes to the actual voting booth to cast a ballot, Stream Theme at 7:30 for Ice Palace tix and Musical Mind Bender at 8:10 for tix to Ozomatli.

and I don’t look a day over……

Thanks for all the birthday wishes today! And thanks to Dr. Matt Thompson for his flu shot and music advice. Tomorrow morning…a visit from Josie the Pop Culture Queen and Michelle Mac will clue us in to some great community events.

The dreaded drill

October 27th, 2009 by greg-spokane

I will admit, I have almost no experience with the dentist chair other than a semi annual cleaning….but today was different. Couple of small fillings, one on each side. That leaves me with no good side to chew on. Does beer count as soft food?
Tune in tomorrow morning for Dr. Matt Thompson. He’ll get us straight on flu shots and hopefully give me some good car stereo installation advice.

Changes

October 26th, 2009 by greg-spokane

Went in for surgery last week (nothing too scary) and when I woke up I was on the Morning Show. Well, it was sort of like that. That Guy Steve and I swapped spots. Look forward to you being an active part of River Mornings….on Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and on the phone.

Talk to you soon,

Greg

Less is More

Since cutting down the channel package on our home tv, I’ve reaquainted myself with public television. I traded SportsCenter for Antiques Roadshow and haven’t looked back.
